Invitation is at the very centre of what Christmas is all about. One of the key moments in the Christmas story is God’s invitation to the shepherds of Bethlehem to come and see Jesus lying in a manger; God’s angles say to the shepherds
‘I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord’ (Luke 2:10-11 NIV).
And in Jesus coming to earth at Christmas, everybody is offered God’s great invitation to forgiveness of sin and eternal life;
‘..to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God’ (John 1:12 NIV).
Invitations are powerful! Research has shown that the single best-received method of seeing new people come to church is a personal invitation, and that the majority of people would be likely to consider visiting a church if somebody they knew well would invite them to come along.
Why not prayerfully invite a friend, family member, co-worker or neighbour to one of our services at Berwick Anglican Church this Christmas?
